Use of the clearing system looks set to reach a record high today, as thousands of students look to secure a place at University.
Adzuna has put together five simple tips to help students navigate this tricky time:
1) Stay calm: You’re going to need to be super calm and focused today. Keep everything in perspective , you’re a talented person, you’re in a great position and all you need to do now is concentrate on the task in hand – getting into a University that suits you
2) Be organised: Make sure you look back on your original choices. Create a simple database with a list of Universities, note down contact details and rank them in order of interest. Refer back to this list today and make sure your final choices are backed up by sound, logical reasons
3) In all of the excitement, don’t forget the admin! Use UCAS to officially confirm your place on your course of choice. Before you go to the pub to celebrate, update your student finance application, confirm your accommodation, let your school know where you are going and give your Grandma a call to tell her the good news. She’ll appreciate it.
4) Avoid TINA: TINA is the mind-numbing fear that ‘there is no alternative’. You need to avoid this mindset at all costs. The world is your oyster. If you don’t find the right course to fit your needs this time round, there are a million and one other options out there for you. Take a gap year, go traveling and reapply next year. Take a job to start learning and building your network. Take a chance and set up your own business – some of the best entrepreneurs in the world didn’t go to University.
5) Enjoy the adventure: This will be one of the most memorable days of your life. Take it all in, enjoy every minute and keep a positive mindset. This is the end of an era and the start of an exciting stage in your life.
